2004 Seadoo Sportster LE Oil injection question - Can anyone help with this?

I am replacing the old oil that came with this boat with XP-S oil. To keep the old oil from contaminating the new, with what is in the oil return lines, I cut the lines before they get to the neck of the oil reservoir and have them empting into a container. Here is what I don't understand. I thought their would be just one return line going to the oil tank, but their are 2 of them & one of them is larger in diameter than the other one. They both connect to the oil tank at the neck of the oil tank. When I cranked up the engine nothing is coming out of the larger oil line and a fine spray of gas comes out of the smaller one. Is gas suppose to be mixing with the oil before it gets to the engine? And why is nothing coming out of the larger line? Is there a valve that opens and closes to let the oil return to the tank? Can anyone enlighten me with this?

Mike

Update:

OK, here are my thoughts about this. I think the larger line is a vent line and the smaller line is the oil return line. If that is correct, then I have gas mixing with the oil coming from the rotary gear cavity. If that is the case, how is gas getting into the cavity? Is it getting by the crankcase seals for this cavity or coming in somewhere else. I've never taken one of these type of engines apart, so I am at a loss. Also how is the oil pumped out of this cavity to return to the oil tank? Does it use air pressure? If so, could gas be coming in there? This is a big problem for me, as it could mean a complete overhaul of the engine if it is getting by the crankcase seals. If anyone has taken one of these engines (947/951 DI) apart and can help me, I would be thankful.
