Hi All,
Just found the forums, and am looking to buy a boat. I've been in contact with the seller, Craigslist, and wanted to check the price.

2004 Sea Doo Speedster 200
Twin 155 HP 4-Tec Engines
Trailer

He first listed $17,000 and then reduced to $16,000. He's checking the hours and will let me know. Any ideas.

Here is the link:

Thanks guy and hope for some input!!!

It's a fun boat. I bought mine (2008 310hp with 3 yrs left on the extended warranty) about a year ago for $21,000 from a guy in Jacksonville. It had about 50 hours on it and has been great. The 310hp engines keep you from dealing with supercharger issues, so that is a big plus in my book. I would have a compression check done on the engines and make sure to take it for a test drive. These boats have issues with sucking up debris, and you want to make sure the impellers & jets are in good condition. You should be able to hit low to mid 50's if that are okay. Good luck & keep us posted on it!

I picked up a 2005 370hp Speedster 200 from a dealership in NV for $15k a couple of months ago, was in good mechanical condition, couple of the seats had some cracks/tears but apart from that it has been great and they had it checked out by their mechanics.

I think that price is a bit high. $14,000 to maybe 15,000 is what i would pay. That ad doesnt tell me enough though. How many hours? What kind of maintenance was done? How much use has been salt water and how was the boat cleaned afterwards? I would offer 14 and go from there.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. I just got a message back from the seller. He says:

not original owner, have another boat-don't need two--------------150 hours on boat, no repairs, will do test if serious and I will take $13,500 if you come on and get boat... no less.thanks, (the tac and speedometer does not work) other gauges do and just serviced.............runs well !!!!!!!!! and trailer is nice with disc brakes

So he's willing to take 13.5K, but then tac and speedometer do not work. Are those an expensive repair? Is 150 hours too high?

Thanks!

That is more a good price. 150 hours is a great low hour boat. Should be a good buy. I wouldnt worry so much about the gauges. I think others have had the same problems. Just make sure to water test it and do a compression test of the engines.

Thanks again for the replies.

Does anyone know how much it possibly could cost to get the tac and speedo fixed? I'd like to have them all working. Maybe a blown fuse, but anyone know what the worst case scenario could be?

Also, who can do compression tests? Is that seadoo dealership or any boat mechanic? Any idea for cost on that? Sorry for questions, and thanks for the great replies.

Thanks all!!!

I purchased my 04 speedster in may of 2010 for $13,000 with 20 hours on it. This boat has the plastic pumps that can get out of round from hi pump torq and cause cavtation. I installed stainless steel wear rings in my plastic pumps with great results. The SS will not change shape. The 05 went to the metal pump. The gauges are made by Faria Marine Instruments. They are a great company. You can send them the gauges and they will repair them with a lifetime warranty for about $30 each. Seadoo want about $350 each for new ones.

UPDATE:

I tested the boat on the water today. It drove very nice. Fast, turns great. Both engines fired up right away. I cruised around for a bit, then throttled back to idle, turned off engine, let it sit, and they both fired up again right away. Seller recently had interior re-done, new uphoslstery, so it looks great. Trailer is Shorelandr, top notch, pulled the boat great.

Bad news:
Before we test drove, I looked at the back jets, and noticed white, crusty matter all over. I should've taken a pic. Since he is not original owner, I am afraid it was used in salt water and not taken care of afterwards. I picked at some of it and it crusted off. Should I run away and not look back, or is this something I can clean up. The engine inside looked great. He paid to have the boat inside and out cleaned, buffed, and all, but I'm just afraid of the white, crusty matter on both jets underneath.

Thanks for the help. And please be honest, I have no problem turning and running, but the price is moved to sell, so if this is not a huge deal, I am buying.

personally, i wouldnt buy a boat that was in salt water. but that is just my personal preference. You never know how the previous owner took care of it and what maintenance was done after use.

Yeah I feel a little bit the same. How ever the price does sound good. They have a closed loop system to dont they? If so offer him 12 and see. Remember salt water does eventually effect all your wiring to may be the reasonno guages work. Just my 2 cents there.

Cam.
