I am new to the forum and have a question about a problem I am having with my Islandia which has a merc 240 efi engine. The boat starts up and runs fine at low speed. If I throttle past half throttle, the engine loses power and the solid alarm comes on until I pull throttle back. The alarm then turns off. I can then run it at slow speed.

Any suggestions to what could be causing this would be appreciated. I am having trouble finding a mechanic to look at it in my area.

Thank you,

Rob.

I need to get into the manual, but in most cases, a constant alarm is "normally" and overheat alarm. In the mean time, if Dr Honda is around, he will likely know off the top of his head. He is our resident Merc man,,,

Here are the alarms for the 240 engine,, I assumed it would be an overheat, that is the norm for a continuos tone. It does state that the Guardian is suppose to reduce the engine speed with overheat alarm.

A solid alarm is over temp. I would make sure that the water is flowing out the pee hole.

Thank you for responding. I will check to make sure water is flowing from hole. If it isn't, do you know what would be the cause?

Thanks again,

Rob.

Check for caked up holes from mudd dobber wasps! Flush the engine on the trailer and be sure cooling water exits properly. Check cooling lines for kinks etc.

Yep... what he said.

I would start with a flush, using a hose with GOOD pressure an volume. It could be as simple as some sea grass in the intake.
