I'm a newbe to this forum and appreciate in the information I have found here so far.

I am considering buying 2 RXP 215 and need some advice regarding life expectancy.

These are 2004 and are in excellent shape. Very few scrapes to the hulls and the seats look new. One owner and he took very good care of them.

They started right up.

The question is regarding the 160hrs on each and if they have much life left in them?

The owner says he has had zero problems with them so far and just had them serviced. He paid $23k new for both and $2k for the double trailer. He's asking $10.5k for all.

What is the life expectancy of these motors and impeller jets? Does the super charger reduce engine life much? How much are these really worth?

I have only rented previously so these will be my first PWC's to own and I would appreciate constructive advice. Sorry for the newbe questions...
Thanks :)

If taken care of, they'll last a good long time. The 4-Tec engines are much more reliable than the 2-stroke predecessors. With that many hours, I'd be suprised if the supercharger clutch washers haven't been replaced with metal ones, but you definitely need to ask.

SeaDoo recommends supercharger rebuilds every 100 hours. Anticipate needing to rebuild them soon, a cost of about $350 each.

Supercharger Shaft/Clutch Kit, '08 Spec Rebuild Kit

The price for the two seems slightly high given the hours (but they almost always do when sold in pairs...convenience fee?). You can find 2005s for $5500 all day with about 30/40 hours. Might want to use that as a haggling point to help you lower the price.

BUT, that said, those are some killer SeaDoos and look like they'll be an absolute blast :)

Let us know what they say about the superchargers.

Thanks for the quick reply and the link to the rebuild kits.

I was told they have had no engine or other work on them at all. Just oil changes. Makes me wonder if I am getting the whole story.

Also a big thanks for the expectation on pricing.

I was hoping to get PWC that I could ride and not start out wrenching on. I'll keep looking.

The rebuild isn't too bad and you'll likely want to do it to any supercharged seadoo you find. Keep that in mind as well...they will likely ALL need it.

You can search on here for "Supercharger failure" and find a ton of people who have had issues.

It's not real major wrench work...Here is a link to the guide for replacing the washers: http://www.rivamotorsports.com/instructions/rs1751_hdw_948.pdf

This is just an unfortunate design flaw, but easily remedied. Could you just jump on and ride? Sure, they have for 320 fortunate hours worth...but the peace of mind is priceless.

Very cool...thanks again for the information. Looks straight forward and the special tool seems to come with the kit.

It might be the real reason he is selling them. What do you think it would cost to have this done at a shop? I can use that number to deduct from the asking price. I'll call up a local shop to find out as well.

I'm not afraid to spin a wrench and I would rather do it myself and before it fails on it's own.

thanks again for the advice :)

Just found the price of $700 ea for a shop rebuilding the S/C's in another post. I'll check with a local shop tomorrow to see if they quote the same.

I'll check his ability to provide service records.

I got a similar price from a local service center for rebuilding the blowers. 3.5 hours labor @ $125/hr plus $200 to $300 for parts.

They said the blowers could go to 150 hrs before service, unless they had the ceramic washers and then get it done ASAP. He said the ceramic breaks like glass and gets sucked into the oils pumps and shreads things up. He had just gone through an engine that had this happen.

The directions JoeZ provided look pretty straight forward. Not sure if the special tool is needed. Just looks like a thin wrench used to keep the assembly from turning while tightening the impeller shaft nut. I would probably get it since I will need to do 2 of them and don't want to find out I need it in the middle of the rebuild.

Do you know how soon the wear ring needs to be replaced and how much that usually costs?

Yes you need a special wrench, which is, just as you stated, very thin. They are also on PWC Muscle.

Wear rings need to be replaced "as needed", which if my memory servers me is when clearances are greater than 1mm. If you suck in rocks or other debris, the wear ring will need replacing more quickly.

You can either go OEM (available at seadoowarehouse.com) or with a Stainless Steel Replacement Wear Ring.

Great, thanks again for the information!

If the OEM part is ~$70 and the install is about ~2hrs @ $125/hr I was quoted, it would be about $325 to replace one. Then again I would do it myself most likely.

Just trying to determine if these 2 skis are worth jumping on, or if I should just buy something newer with less hrs.

So far if I ask $9,500 for both, $1400 if both blowers are serviced and if both wear rings need to be replaced $650, I'm in them for $11,550. If I do it myself it would be about $1k less...

The good news is the service guy said the motors should last a long time if taken care of.
