I just purchased the boat and have had it on the water only a few times so far. The last couple of times out, I have noticed some white smoke coming from the back end on take off. It doesn't last very long and seems to disappear once we get moving. Is this normal? The engine is 240. I'm new to jet boats so please forgive my ignorance...

The engine is cooled from the water you are sitting in. I believe you are seeing steam in your case.
Dr Honda can conform my thoughts as he is very knowledgeable with the Merc Engines..

It's probably normal. As Coastie said... it could be steam. But... it is a 2-stroke, and it will load up, and start to smoke if at idle too long. As long as it's not excessive... and it clears up when you give it some throttle... then it's fine.

If you want... post a short vid so I can see how much smoke.

Isn't White Smoke, engine coolant from a cracked head?

In closed loop cooling systems white smoke can be the coolant from a cracked head or gasket.

But in open loop it is almost always steam coming out the exhaust as the "coolant" is the water you are sitting on.
