I noticed today that the pee hole for the water bypass system seemed to have a lot of gunk in it, and subsequently noticed that no water seems to be coming out of it. I cleaned it out with a piece of wire but no change. However, I was going near top RPMs for long periods of time today and the engine temp never broke 48 Celsius.

Do I have a problem? I can try flushing the engine but I’m 100% fresh water so I assumed this is never required so I’ve not done it before.

Thanks!

The pee hole water comes from the top of port cyl. head. If the hot water can't get out, the cold water can't get in. It could cost you a melted piston.

Remove the hose and clean it out. Completely. To the pee hole. It is possible the bugs got all the way into the cyl head fitting. Check that too. Reconnect the hose. Cover the pee hole with a small piece of duct tape when not in use.

If you have operated in muddy water, you can build sediment in the cooling passages of the engine. When it dries, it can set like cement. Even in fresh water, flushing is a good idea.

Thanks for the info. Haven’t been anywhere too shallow recently, I wonder if it has been clogged for a while.

Just wondering- I know the Optimax has a lot of safety protection build in, and as I said the engine temp sensor was reading quite low the whole time. Top speed was still good. Seems unlikely that any damage has been incurred so far?
