2003 Sportster shifter jumping out of forward

I purchased a 2003 Sportster and when I turn slow or fast the shifter wants to pull back into reverse.
I have checked the cables and shifter. The hook that is supposed to keep the boat in forward while the throttle is up, is there. And the pin is on the shifter and it catches.
I rebuild built the pump and replaced the bolts and bushings on the reverse bucket hoping that would take care of the problem. The bucket locks in tight in forward. So I believe its a cable issue??
The shifter seems to work fine other than that.

Sounds strange, if nothing snags it somehow when you turn i haven't a clue. You might have better luck asking in the "4-Tec boats"-section of the forum
