2003 Sportster LE -is this engine manufacture date?

Quick question -my rotax has 979602 serial code, is the 2002 production date of engine?

Post a picture of the actual engine and boat. That's not a serial number.

Will take pics tomorrow. There is also 98 or 86 (depending how you look) in the circle surrounded by the stars -I guess that's also not the production date? I tried calling multiple US seadoo dealers but they couldn't verify the serial code.

Correct, that's not a serial number. Look at the eBay link. Picture #8 to be specific.
