First time 'ski owner, and a massive rookie mistake made. I've ridden Jet-Ski's for my whole life, and was recently given this unit so that I could clean it up and use it. I do my own car mechanical work, but never knew that 'skis used chipped keys, which makes sense in retrospect.
I was having trouble with the electrical, so I used "inside the box" thinking; this thinking lead me to the kill-switch being bad. I cut the switch, replaced it with a generic switch, and am now realizing that I need a DESS key in order for the MPEM to recognize the chipped unit. I try and start it, but it doesn't recognize the unit which would be expected.
My question is - Can the MPEM (it's OEM) be reprogrammed to allow for ANY key/generic keyless system to be used?
I cut the wires on the existing KS as close as possible to the switch and threw away my DESS Key, so it is effectively useless at this point.
If I MUST repurchase a DESS key and switch, are those able to be programmed to my MPEM without the original key and switch?
Thanks So Much!
