I'm just wondering what to experct, I'm going to look at a Utopia this evening with a 240 hp Merc. Do the Merc powered boats use Bomb's DSS and MPEM, or is starting one the same as any Mercury power unit (as in a simple key switch)?
And, can anyone give me a rundown on what diagnostic beeps I may hear (if they even apply to the Merc power unit?)

The 240 is a turn key start. Once you turn the key you will hear a sharp beep (low oil) is should stop in 1-2 sec, after that you can start the engine, BUT ONLY if you have a hose connected and wate running BEFORE you start the engine and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. (This is a Merc not a Rotax engine)

Once the engine is started it should idle at 1000 rpms. Turn the helm ALL the way to the left and then to the right at the end of travel the rpms should increase to 2000 rpms, this is the low speed steering. Only works with throttle at idle. Other than that the engine is straight forward. Turn the engine off and THEN turn the water off.
