All,

I have a 2002 Seadoo Utopia w/ a 240HP EFI Mercury M2 Engine. Last summer during the first trip out, I got out for 15-20 minutes and the boat began to have a constant alarm at 4000-5000 RPM. After returning to idle, and starting to move again the alarm started at lower and lower speeds. I finally got the boat back to the trailer figuring a sucked something up that limited my cooling flow. I gave the engine a good flush, and inspection and tried to get the boat out the next weekend. I got 100 yards from my trailer and the alarm started again, and became constant until I shut the boat down.

Long story, but I am now trying to get the boat going again, after winter a long winter storage (had twin sons over the winter, so boat repair was very low priority) and I get the same constant alarm after 2-3 minutes of idling on the hose in the driveway. I am completely stumped on what to do with this thing. For the 240 Merc manual I guess I can check the sensors, but from the behavior of the alarm it surely does not seem like a bad sensor.

I would appreciate any help.....

I am trying to find a dealer in Western PA to work on the boat. The local (50 miles away) Seadoo boat dealer (Mosities Motorsports) says they dont want to work on it "take it to a Merc dealer" and the local Merc dealer(s) do not want to touch a Jet boat. So I guess I am either driving 120 miles to a Seadoo dealer that will work on it or figuring this thing out myself....

You might be able to fix this yourself. There are a couple of black water hoses at the top of the engine near the back. I think there is a Y-split. Look for blockage there.

I have a 2001 Utopia with a 200 optimax m2 jet. I have a manual and it explains in detail how the water flows. I'm not sure if your 240 has the same routing. I live in Pittsburgh and I found a merc dealer on Route 8 in Glenshaw with a mechanic who has helped me out a bit. I actually got just as good of advice from double07 in this forum.

From the alarm sounding so soon after starting it sounds as though your blockage is getting worse.

Try this, Find the hose that leads to the exit of water from your motor to the outside world. See if you can adapt a hose to flush water back through and see if it comes out down at the impeller where it is supposed to get pumped through the motor. In my manual there is no hose at the bottom where the water enters the motor and the exhaust area. I do have water cooling my port fuel rail then into my air compressor then into the top of my expansion chamber for exit to the outside world. It also takes another path upon entry of the motor, through the block and heads and I think out the back via a separate hose.

I live 10 minutes from the dealer you mentioned and they can't help on the mercury powered boats. I keep my boat stored at Caney Valley at the Yough Dam and the mechanic Rodney works on all mercs and has done some work on ny 240 efi 2001 challenger 2000.

I thought having a Sea Foo dealer nearby would be good, but they have not been helpful.
