Just bought a 2002 Utopia 205. There a few spots around the hull where there are, what look like, tiny hairline cracks in like a spider web configuration in the gel coat. I found them around the tow line hook at the back, and a few along the outer hull on the sides. Since this is my first boat, I wanted to find out if this is something I need to be concerned about. I've pulled on the tow line and tapped along the hull where I found the hairline marks and everything seems sound and firm, no hollow sounds, so it doesn't look like anything has been compromised, other than the gel coat itself.

Has anyone had anything like this in their gel coats? Living in Florida, I wondered if this is just normal wear and tear for a 13 year old boat.

Here are some pics of the area around the tow line. The other places around the hull are too tiny (narrow) to see in pictures.

Totally normal to see some small cracks in the gel. Don't worry about it. Also... they are dang near impossible to fix. Every time I've see something like that re-gel'ed... the cracks show up again.

Thanks so much for letting me know it's normal. I guess I'll just leave them then. Rather than try to fix it and have it come right back.

Thanks again.
