2002 utopia 185 with a 240 merc

I picked up a 02 utopia with a 240 merc engine. ( it's my first boat ever)It sat for a few years, so I changed the plugs and battery.. It will not run, unless I put gas in the throttle body.. Then it revs high and dies out.. I want to remove the old gas, but can seem to siphon the gas from the filler.. Is there another way to siphon the gas?? Is there anything else in could be?

I tried. I ran 3/8 Tygon tubing down till it hit bottom. Tried to syphon with a pump, with no luck!! ThOught maybe there was a check valve or something...

You could lift the sender tube out, and go in there.... OR... pull the hose off the tank that feeds the engine. It's the lowest part of the tank normally.
