After an hour of normal operation my 02' xp won't reach full speed. Normally it accelerates to 60 mph. Now it revs up to the rev limiter but only gets up to 45 to 50 mph. It feels like it has an obstruction in the water inlet, or the impeller is not functioning properly. I inspected these things and they appear normal.
It feels like a car with a slipping clutch. The motor revs hard but you don't feel it accelerate like normal.
I ran the engine with the back cover removed to observe the drive shaft rotate. It appeared normal, however the rubber bellow with hose clamps on both ends seemed to have some lateral play(about 1/8").
Is there something in the driveline that could be slipping, or what? The boat was running great, and I did not run anything over. This problem just suddenly started happening.

Same Here

I am having the same exact problem with my ski. Make sure the Pump oil for the impeller bearing is changed each year. and make sure they fill that cone completley full as this was my mistake and it cost me a bearing replacement which i did myself. I am wondering if you fixed your problem as of yet
