Hey guys,

While doing my annual boat mantinance on my 240 hp M2 jet this year I noticed water leaking in front of the exhaust expansion chamber while hooked up to the garden hose. It was very hard to see where it was coming from since there is little space between there and the head. I see the coolant lines hook to the y above so I don't think it's possible to leak water at this point. Question is, can it leak water here? Secondly, is it possible that it only happened because of the hose pressure vs the pump pulling the water in? I have never noticed an abnormal water in the engine compartment before. My plan was to check it once in the water but recent Storms have made a mess of our lakes here in AZ so I will have to wait a few weeks for that.

Thanks in advance for any input..

I THINK the Y above the head is supposed to have a .020 in it for a siphon break. Thats a small hole so I doubt your water is from there. I would suspect the adapter plate gasket or the exhaust expansion chamber gasket

Hope this picture attaches:
On my 2003 250 opti, i have had the starboard hose (item 6) chaffed through twice by the exhaust insert (item 2). It happened in less than a season and I am sure it was assemble correctly. It appears to be a design issue since those parts have been obsoleted.
As i recall, the replacement hoses were $80 each. Now, i have a high temp teflon inside to protect and high temp silicone tape on the outside. That has held up for 3 years.
Run the engine and put your hand back there, if there is water to the exhaust as there should be, the temperature is not hot. You can find a leak that way.

Islandia coolant leak

Thanks for the reply. It's not leaking at the top I was just noting the coolant lines are up there and it didn't look like water could flow to the bottom of the expansion chamber. Is it common for the expansion chamber to leak like that? If it's the adapter plate I assume the motor has to come out to replace? The water appears to be coming out the expansion gasket between there and the head but is really hard to see.
