My jetski runs great except for the fact that there is a short somewhere that drains my battery. I just get the run around from the guys that service it for me, so I've decided to take the matter into my own hands, even though I'm a rank amateur! I've been watching this site for some time and would greatly appreciate the quality guidance that people here are providing.
I am installing a disconnect switch on the battery, but I would really also like to resolve where the leaks are coming from.
With the help of the electrical schematic from the shop manual and a multimeter I've confirmed that there is a 6.6 mA draw on the battery at rest. By pulling fuses one by one, I've found the following:
- 1.5 mA draw at the rectifier
- 3 mA draw at the terminal connector of the 3rd wiring harness at the front electrical box (electronic module). The points on this connector map to the power source, starter, speed and water sensors, and grounds.
- 2.2 mA draw at the terminal connector of the 1st wiring harness at the front electrical box. The points on this connector map to the Info Center and Speedometer.
My questions at this point are:
- Can the rectifier be fixed or should I just replace it?
- I'm having trouble bridging the points on the connectors with my multimeter to narrow down further where the leaks are occurring. Is there some kind of adapter to facilitate that? Alternatively do I have to plug that connector back in and disconnect each end point one at a time to find the faulty one?
I would appreciate any help offered.
