Ok so it seems that this summers is the summer for low oil alerts or low fuel alerts! !!!

This past weekend i took the boat for a little fun in the sun with the fam. While on the lake i noticed my fuel gauge was showing low fuel i started to head back to the ramp when the four beep alarm started. i didnt get any gas since we were heading back to the boat ramp. I assumed the beepingnwas due to low fuel per the gauge.

Next day we went back out to the lake and before heading out i added about 18 gallons of fuel. put the boat in the water started up while still on the trailer and the beeping continued four consecutive beeps about 2-3 minute apart. looked at my fuel guage and noticed it had not moved at all after fueling up. On my challenger there is a low oil light attached to the fuel gauge and it was not on. Checked the oil and saw it was a little low so i added 2 quarts just to be safe.

Ran the boat for a bit on the trailer thinking the oil or gas just needed to flow a little through the lines the alarm continued. So i decided to pull the boat and head home.

So did some search on the fourm and found alot of great information but im still a little lost on what it migt be. i need some help so here is what i have done so far.

I disconnected the fuel guage from behind the dssh and turned the key to see if the beeping would stop. No it still beeping !

I checked all the conections from the guage to the baffle to make sure nothing was lose. everything was good and we still have the beeping!

I tried to pull the baffle to see if i could miss with float and see it that would make the guage move or show full, but i couldnt remove the baffle due to the hoses not giving me much clearence. i didnt want to pull it our with our counsulting with the experts (you guys) and frankly im not 100% sure the float is located in the baffle? Still beeping

I then moved to disconnecting the connector from the sender that runs to the baffle and placed a jumper wire to see how the guage would react. the guage moved to showing full fuel but the beeping continued. what the what? ? ?

So at this point im going i figured that the guage does have power going to it and it does work so no need in replacing the gauge. Im thinking its the baffle assembley thats not working and is causing the alerts for low fuel ? How can i test the baffle to make sure this is my issue and should i also be looking at other
Things that might be causing the 4 beep alarm?

I have a the optimax250 Merc engine

Please help?

4 beeps and a 2 min pause is the low oil alarm.

Did you check the small side tank for oil?

As far as the fuel not showing... it's common for the float to stop working. The sender needs to come out of the tank to replace it.

I havent checked the small oil tank i will do that today. I would think the low oil lightt would come on if the oil was still low?

If the tank is low do i just add oil to the small tank or add more to the larger tank?

Thanks for the help Dr. You are a great asset to this fourm, i will up date you later today.

The oil sender is only in the small side tank. So... if you top off the main tank... it has to pump over. That can take some time while the engine is running. But... yes... you can take the top cap of the small tank, and just top it off. Leave a small air gap... otherwise... when you put the cap back on... it will overflow.

As far as the oil light.... yes, it should be on... but if you think the gauge is bad... or has no power... it won't come on.

Ok Doc, i opened the small tank and its pretty full so i topped it off and left a little room for air and to prevent any overflow.

The alarm is still going off? i did notice a little screw on the top of the small tank with two wires coming out would that be the float?

Thanks

Doc disregard the last post.

I added more oil to the larger tank below and it seemed to stop the alarm. as it stands the larger tank is filled more than half way should i also top that one off?

Well, I ran out of gas today.............no alarm, absolutely silent! I took the opportunity to mark my tank in 5 gallon intervals. I hope to never run out again

Half is fine. Can you post a picture of your larger tank. Since the newer engine is "Smartcraft"... it may also have an oil sender. (mine doesn't)

Not all boats have a fuel alarm. Do you have a switch on the dash with an "F" or little "Pump" icon on it? If not... you don't have a low fuel alarm.

No switch with F or little pump on my dash. ?.

Here is a pic of my larger oil tank.

The low fuel alarm was an option. My boat does not have it. My fuel sender has three wires and there is a low fuel switch in the sender but the harness going back to the dash has only two wires.

OK.... You have the same tank as me. There isn't a sender in it. So... the only time you should get an oil alarm is if the small tank is low. The engine has to be running to push oil over into it. (or open it, and add oil)

The fuel warning comment was for CabaDiesel.
