my boat quit while running at half throttle, restarts and runs fine for 3 minutes, quits and restarts fine, keeps doing this until i get to dock. got home wont start at all. has new plugs and temp sensor. but now when i turn the power switch on, the engine cranks, with the key off and lanyard off. it still doesnt start. whats up? bad ignition switch?
any help at all is appriciated, this one's for you dr. honda.....
thanking everyone in advance

I would start with the switch. But the solenoid could just be stuck.

As far as the description you are giving... that sounds like engine was overheating. Have you checked your buzzers lately?

A simple way would be to unplug it from the engine harness.

On your engine, you have 2 buzzers. One will beep when you turn on the key. But the second one is mounted in the bottom of the helm... and that's the one that will sound on an over-temp. I find them dead all the time, and replaced the one on both of my seadoo boats. (and on every pre 1999 seadoo I've owned)

Since I suspect a possible over temp... you should check the compression.

BUT... you can test for high pressure fuel at the Schrader valve on top of the regulator. (port side of the engine, on top of the vapor tank)

compression with throttle closed, lowest is 125-140. pluigs have 1 trip on them wet and little black, dried them almost started. have new plugs on order.

Well.... you have fuel pressure... compression and spark. It should be running.

I would check over the wires, and make sure that nothing is unplugged. (like the injector rack)

where would the throttle guardian be on this boat? blue and black wire that runs to the shifter controls by the steering wheel? also my merc engine manual doesn't tell how to check the tps, without a test harness, can you explain that? tanks for your time

It's normally mounted in the helm. But... if you have spark... it should start. The throttle guardian cuts spark.

boat has started the last 2 days after it sets all night, idles fine, smokes a little, but on the hose in the driveway, can't really tell anything else, after couple minutes if i shut it off it wont start. redid comp. test all 130 throttle closed, all plugs have spark, plugs have 3 hours on them, but still could be bad, waiting for new ones, don't like to chance it out in the water just yet, anything else you can think of?

When it wont' restart... do you still have fuel pressure? Do you still have a "Beep" when you turn the key on?

Also, be very carful......... the hose port on the merc is hard to get enough cooling water into the engine. SO... have you checked the buzzer for your "Over-temp" alarm? Have you checked the starboard side temp sender?

still have a beep everytime i turn on the key, fuel pressure is still there when it wont start, haven't checked the temp sender starboard, how do i do this?

Just pull the wires, and check the value with a meter.

But... since you have all 3 things to make it run... I think you need to find a dealer, who has a DDT unit... and see if there are any errors in the computer.
