Well pulled my motor this weekend. Oil lines starved the front cylinder and piston started to break apart on top. Motor still ran on back cylinder. Upon closer inner inspection cylinder walls aren't showing any damage. Front cylinder ring is broken and top of piston dome is chewed up! I found small metal shaving in entry to crank area. Crank still spins fine with no damage. I'm worried about shaving's down in crank area. 288 hrs on original motor, and was wondering if a full rebuild is in order or should the bottom end be taken apart and inspected for metal shavings. I am mechanically inclined and wonder how difficult a bottom end disassemble is? For the price of a top end rebuild and crank replacement isn't a complete engine rebuild smarter to do? Any advice would be appreciated. (I believe oil lines developed a vapor lock and engine starved for oil. Oil cap was difficult to remove for some reason). My ski is a fuel injected model.

You are talking about a 10 year old crank. I personally wouldn't chance re-using that crank. Even if there is no damage... it's not going to live much longer. Also... if the crank seals are getting weak... it's going to run the engine lean, and can take out the new top-end. AND... since you say the piston crown shattered, with almost no piston skirt/cyl wall damage... I would be more inclined to think the melt down was from running lean... and NOT from lack of oil.

Anyway... if you are planing on keeping the ski... spend the money on a full rebuild. That way... it will be trouble free for another 10 years. If you are looking to sell it... pop in the top-end, and make it run.

I noticed when I did the compression check originally the oil lines were very dry. I did fire the engine and did the procedure to pump oil thru the small lines. It was pumping oil as it should. I did have an air bubble in the main line between the oil filter and oil pump about 2" long. Not sure if this is what caused it to lean out and seize. Anyway your right about going the complete rebuild route. Im considering the full rebuild from Full-Bore. Anyone else to consider? I don't think I would want to do just a top end and have someone else with these problems. I had planned on selling it to get a newer one but now I may just reconsider keeping it. Thanks for you adivice and time you spend replying to the needy. Your a great help!

Still breaking in mine from full Bore it was 1100 I think. They do good work. I actually have a seal leaking so I'm sending it back at the end of the season. They are good with warranty also. They told me go ahead and ride it till end of seasonthen send it.

Yep... I use them all the time in my shop. I've personally never had an issue with a seadoo engine. (I had a yamaha triple come in out of index)
