2001 XP

This weekend we took out the 2001 XP and it was running great. We got some gas in the marina when the tank was already half full and drove it about 2 miles and then we turned it off. Then several of my sons friends tried to ride it but they were not able to get on it due to balance issues. The PWC did not submerge (I think) but then when it did start there was a little smoke and then it took off and would not go over 32mph.

The PWC was ridden for about 15 min since we thought it might be bad gas and we were trying to run it out. The PWC would go 32 for about 5 min and then go up to 55mph for about 15 seconds and then back down to 32 for 5-10min. It kept repeating.

Any thoughts?

check the front electrical box if it has one…water has gotten in somewhere and is affecting carburation..
and or spark,,,,clean all grounds and every connector..those skis are so hard to get on 2 up…brp did not tell that to prospective buyers…it is meant to turn and lean like a motorcycle….remove the white fuel bowl…see if it is full…see if it has water in the bottom,,,just some ideas

Thanks. I got the XP last year and just changed the plugs for the first time. Could bad plugs cause this issue?
