2001 XP choke connection

I just finished rebuilding and re-installing my carbs on my 2001 XP 951cc. When I installed the throttle cable, it occurred to me that there is no attachment for the choke. Is the choke supposed to attach to the carbs somewhere? Is there supposed to be a cable? If so, where should it attach? The previous owner was less than a rocket scientist, so I wouldn't be surprised if he left it detached at some point. The shop manual is no help on this one.
