Hello all,

I have two machines that I will speak about and for clarification purposes machine1 is a 1999 Sea Doo GTX RFI and machine2 is a 2001 Sea Doo GTX DI. Machine1 is running good with a slight hesitation at top end. The reason I am posting is because of machine2. Both machines were given fresh new batteries from Autozone at the beginning of the season. Machine1 is running good with no battery issues, but after about 5 hours of riding machine2 just died and would not idle. My first thought was the fuel or air injectors because they have been trouble in the past. It turns out that they are both fine. I talked to my local service tech and they said to check the battery (I didn't think this would be an issue since they were both brand new). I took the battery back to Autozone and they put it under load and said the battery was bad. Great, I'm thinking problem solved. I brought the new battery home and now the machine would idle but not great (definitely running better). I took it out for a spin and it would run great above 2500 rpm's. When decreasing speed and finally letting off the throttle the machine stalls every time. I have a distance of no wake and the machine constantly stalls through this zone (without just the right amount of throttle to keep it going). I'm still thinking the battery is not putting out enough voltage. My question is...are these machines temperamental without perfect voltage? Being that machine1 is RFI and machine2 is DI is machine2 more susceptible to this? Is there a good (sealed) battery that you would recommend me trying?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Each dealership that I have asked said they can not even look at the machine for another 3-4 weeks so I'm thinking I'm on my own with this one.

hey....if you can get it running(dead battery one), see if while running, the volts at battery is more than 14v, if not, the rectifier could've went south. Another thing, is clean the RAVES, if carbon built up, then possibly the geotines are hanging up/ not closing...good luck

I did test the voltage with the new battery while revving and I believe it was in the 13's. Unfortunately I do not remember the exact voltage and will not be able to test again until Thursday. What are the geotines? Is the rectifier in the electrical box that the positive cable goes directly into from the battery?

geotines are the slides of the RAVES, when you pull them out, you'll see the expression...Rectifier is in the electrical box, has yellow and red wire/s protruding from it, this converts ac to dc, keeping volts at 14v at battery. If bad, will cause battery to run system til it dies.

I had the rectifier replaced last year. I charged the battery and will give that another go this weekend. If that does not solve the problem I am going to purchase the RAVE gasket kit and o-ring so that I can clean them.
