Hey Guys,

I picked up a 2001 Uptopia last week that has a fresh Mercury without the oil injection(takes mixed) by a local powersport shop. Everything runs great and we had it on the lake the whole weekend. After we pulled it out on Saturday and rinsed it out with the flush system, I noticed a small-ish oil leak sitting under the rear or the boat. I'm guessing it's coming from the jet drive, has anyone seen anything like this? I had left town but my stepdad said he opened the engine compartment and everything looked clean in there.

Anyone have any ideas on where I should start?

Thanks!

You should hope that your leak is a missing gasket from the oil fill screws. There is a small gasket under the head of each screw. Part avail. from Merc.

Look up into the intake tunnel. Is the oil dripping along the shaft?
Could also be fishing line wrapped around the impeller shaft that has gotten up around the seal.

If it looks like it's coming from the stator, that seal is fairly easy to replace. Hopefully, it is not a cracked casting (front or rear).

Now the bad news: if oil is leaking from gearbox shaft seal, it's time to pull the engine in order to replace that seal.

I got a pretty crappy picture from my parents but from what I gathered through them it appears to be coming from the seals along the shaft on both ends. Which one of those scenarios is this?

Can't tell from pic evidence of an oil leak from shaft seal. Check the other scenarios.

If you ever get your impeller off, it could use some TLC. Stay in deeper water. Damaged leading edges are from sucking up rocks.
