Hi my name is damien and I'm new on the site,I recently bought a 2001 speedster with the 240 efi engine,I purchased the boat without engine only the jet system and the adapter plate is there.so my idea is to fit a 250 di optimax which is easy for me to get hold of but what iv noticed is the adapter plate is different ,can anybody help or guide me on how to do this swap ,what I would need and will it be possible to do such a swap.

Thanks in advance

The 250 Opti is a 3.0l engine... and the 240 EFI was a 2.5l. The pump units are totally different. (gear ratio, output splines, etc) To use a 250 opti... you need the 3.0l pump, and adapter.

hi, and thanks for the reply.can u clarify what u mean by pump,is it the jet pump were talking about.if yes,i thought the m2 jet was all the same only the powerhead bolted to the pump via the adapter was different in hp,200/210/240/250.

Well.... sort of.

The M2 pump's are the same (similar)... but they run different adapters, and gear ratio's for the different engines. Also... I think there was an update to the 3.0l main housing, for more cooling water.

So... if you take the pump you have now... and replace the pinion and drive gear... that will get you the proper raito, and input splines. AND... if you buy the proper adaptor... that will let you mount the engine.

But the "Unkowns" are:

1) Since the ratio is different... I don't know if there is enough movement in the case to properly set the lash of that gear set. This is the same issue with changing gears in a truck axle. You can have a "Ford 9 inch" rear end... but the carrier will change, depending on the ratio.

2) Since the 3.0l engine uses rev 5 of the M2 housing... I'm not sure if there is enough flow in the case.

So... you can try it... but you would probably be better off, selling the 240 pump, and finding the proper 250 pump.

With all that said... if you want to swap another 2.5l engine... it's going to work, regardless of the gear ratio. (it just may not be optimized)

But... if you decide to tackle the project... please post pictures, and info on what you discover. Who knows... it may all work out.

thanks a lot for ur knowledge and advice i have to get back to the drawing board and figure out was the next step, but i will post pictures when the project starts.again thanks:thumbsup:
