Hey All,

I am having issues with my 2001 sea doo utopia with the 200 mercury sport jet motor.
just rebuilt the entire motor, got it running but we can not throttle up with it, it will get to about 1500 RPMS then will no go any further. Our fuel and air pressures are perfect according to the mercury service manual and we have good spark on all cylinders. so far we have replaced the TPS and Map sensor in hopes to solve this issue but it did not make a difference. it does not sound like a mechanical failure to me, it seems to run smooth just will not run above 1500RPMS.
if anyone has any suggestions please let me know as we are unsure where to focus our attention at this point.

When it gets to 1500 rpm... is it dying (shuts off)... or does it sound like it's hitting the rev limiter?

From your description... I also assume this is the 200 Opti?

Do you still have a throttle guardian in the boat?

Yes it's the 200 optimax. the boat doesn't die, sounds like it's running good just won't go further than 1500. not sure about the throttle guardian

Look in the helm. See if there is an extra box with wires coming out of it... other than the fuse block. If you see one... disconnect it, and toss it in the trash. They cause all kinds of issues.

Since you say it just won't go higher than 1500 RPM... have you checked to make sure the actual throttle valve is opening?

Also... I know you said you checked the air and fuel... but did you check it as you opened the throttle?

I will have to check under the helm.
The throttle valve is opening.
I will also have to check air and fuel pressures as I open the throttle. what should you see for the pressures when you do this?

the air and fuel should stay at 80 and 90 psi. Just want to verify that you keep pressure as the fuel is being used.

Update - I checked the fuel and air pressure again as i gave it throttle and it held 80 and 90PSI.
i checked for the extra box in the helm and there is not anything in there.
If you cut the wheel all the way on this boat it will give it a few more RPMS, this will bring it up to just above 2000 and it does this smoothly so i feel even more certain now that this is not a mechanical failure.
we also verified that the water pressure sensor is working.

if you have any other ideas please let me know, we have been through pretty much every sensor on this boat with the exception of the temperature sensors, but there are alarms for overheat so i do not see that being our issue.
