951 Di....

Man, that's the 951 DI motor. This thing is a beast to troubleshoot. But my guess would be either a problem in the compressor injector or compressor. May be in the fuel regulator or compressor air dump valve.
The worse part about it is that if I were there, with a few eliminations, I could probably narrow down the problem. It just bites my ass that people get taken to the bank on these guys.........like 90 bucks an hour, the least they could do is guarantee their freakin work.
If there ever was a day I took my stuff to a mechanic, I'd write a check, then, quickly go out to the river. If it still ran like crap, I'd put a stop check on their payment...............freakin robbers!......
I don't know what you think, but because of the complexity of this motor, you might find it a good idea to get a manual on this thing and start reading up on it. You may find, after reading a chapter or two, you can go out, identify some of the regulators. etc....and perform the test yourself.
There is a lot you can do, about 80%, to fix these things your self. Only a couple things you'd need special tools for.
But for God sakes, don't take it back to those dumb as*es.

Thanks

I have around a total of $4000. into repairs on this ski over the past 5 years.
About the same as my 35' boat!!! I had the thing worked on in Washington and brought it to my place in Arizona so I can hit the lakes when in town and I still just can not keep her running. I never had this kind of trouble with my last 3 skis and I purchased them used. I need to stop complaining and start fixing. I am thinking of checking the fuel pick up filter and if not that it must be electrical? Anybody have any ideas?

If I pull the forward plug wire she dies, pull the rear plug wire she still runs, I have spark to both wires. she is not smoking so I think she is starving for fuel I only know how to check the basic stuff.

Thanks,

Testing....

Wade, as a premium member, it may be a good idea to go read up on the diagnostic procedures on this thing. Read the chapter starting at 6-4-1 and that way, you may be able to post more info where you can get better input from others in the forum.
There was a guy in here, TXTOBY who had the DI motor and he had a domino effect where it went back to the shop several times to find the root cause of the problem. It ended up being the air injector to the rear cylinder.
The DI also uses your compressor to operate your RAVE valves. Some of your description points to that possibility. I'd look to see that you don't have a RAVE valve stuck open. You say that both cylinders have spark, but one dies when you pull the plug. This would be the cylinder in question as to the RAVE sticking open.
Make sure you read up on the procedure on checking the air pressure that operates them. This could be as simple as a clogged air line to your RAVE valves.
Read, Read, Read.............I started in this forum with only the knowledge of a 787, now I've helped my friends repair 951's (RFI's only) and a little maintenance work on the 4-TEC. I was able to do this by reading these manuals. Read, read, read.........you'll be amazed at what your capable of if you just apply yourself to the chapters in question.......good luck!
