Anyone had this happen? 2001 GTX 951 DI. We were at the lake and I was pulling the kids around. Brought the boat back to the beach and shut it off. Was running fine up to that point. We went to get back on it about 10 minutes later and it tried to start and then wouldnt do anything. When you hook up the lanyard you can hear the injectors prime and when you hit the button they prime again. Is there something that needs reset? The dealers around here like to hose you so I really dont want to take it there unless I can specify what I want them to do. Any help is appreciated. Email me if you have any input. Bruce, are you getting any beeps when putting the lanyard on? You should get two beeps that mean your ready to go. Try cleaning the cap and post real good with soap and water. Here's some info on the DESS.
1 long beep (while installing safety lanyard on watercraft switch or
when pressing start/stop button) = Bad connection between
safety lanyard cap and
switch.

8 short beeps = Defective MPEM (memory).

It sounds like the DESS cap isn't communicating to the MPEM,(Multi Purpose Electronic Module). Try cleaning the post with soap and water to see if it helps. Also check the battery wire connections to be sure it has a good + - connection. It could be possible that the battery isn't up to par either. It could have a bad cell that just came into play and caused it to not have enough amps to activate the DESS, or turn over the starter.

Keep us posted on you progress.

I will try the soap and water trick. The guages light up when I connect the lanyard, but maybe the connection isnt very good. The battery is brand spankin new.. I would hope that isnt it.. Will post back when I try the soap and water.. Thanks Fellas.. This was the first trip out this year (late start) and it pukes on me..

Ok, soap and water didnt work. I checked the voltage on the batter side of the starter relay and I had 12 volts, so I put my meter on the lead from the relay to the starter and hit the button and got nothing.. Is it safe to assume the relay is bad? Keep in mind, eventhough I dont get any beeps when hooking up my lanyard, I can still hit the start button and the fuel pumps prime.. Any input?

Ok, folks, I think I need a little expert help here.. I thought my problem was with my starter relay because I was getting now power off the lead going to the starter. I have 12 volts coming into the relay but nothing coming out. When I plug in my lanyard, I am not getting any beeps, but when I hit the button, my fuel pump primes, so that means the button is working correct? Could there be a split in that circuit that would run the fuel pump as well as making the relay work, and the relay portion just isnt working? I am at a loss and believe it or not, the Seadoo shops around here are still backed up on boat work so I am looking at an even longer delay. For any of you guys that have access to the wiring diagrams, the relay has a plug with a black and yellow/red lead coming out. Where do they go to? Is there another relay I am missing? I am desperate at this point..

Your beeper may be malfunctioning... as well as your starter relay. To test the beeper, just hook a test light to the wiring upon key insertion... you will probably get 2 flashes. Arch the relay with a couple of insulated screwdrivers. If the starter turns over, you need a relay.
