I have owned a 2001 Challenger for 1 year and have never had a problem with it until yesterday. Both engines run fine until I try to increase the speed. RPMs are maxing out at 3600 rpm in both engines. Engine RPMs flutter beyond 3600. I checked both fuel separators for water and contamination, all are ok. I inspected and replaced spark plugs, still no help. I removed the air intake boxes and poured a small amount of gas in both carbs to see if RPMs would increase to eliminate fuel restriction problem. This did not help. What would cause the RPMs to be limited like this? I would appreciate any suggestions.

It sounds all most like mpem thinks it is neutral. but I can allways be wrong. It may be that one of the switches on your shift lever is not working;. Good luck and get more that 3 replies that seem to make sence before you try to fix your self. sory I wish I could give you a beter answer but I am no expert. Robin.

low rpm's

Thanks Robin for the insight on refering me to the shift lever swich. It was sticking, thanks to the salt water. Got it unstuck and lubed, now working great.

Lang welcome to the seadoo forum.Lang I had the same problem with my 1997 Challenger. The button in the control levers needs to be cleaned and lubed with silicon spray almost everycouple months, from the salt water. I leave my control lever in reverse when it isn't being used so it won't stick down and cause to have the rev limiter think it is in netural. If you have any more questions about it give me a shout.
