Today I was driving my boat for about ten minutes and when I tried to accelerate it would not go. When I tried to put it into neutral it died. I then tried to restart it and it would not start immediately and I had to keep turning it over to get it to start. After I got it started it had barely any power and it would eventually shut off. During the entire time it would run it would continuosly beep. I am assuming it was in Guardian mode because it had very little power and I had to keep pushing the throttle up and down to get it to even move. After I docked it I noticed the alternator belt was destroyed. I am wondering if this belt has anything to do with the cooling as it seemed as though the engine was overheated. I am so worried I damaged the engine as I probably should have shut it down and got a tow back to shore. Any help concerning what is wrong would be greatly appreciated. I am pretty sure my engine is the 240 EFI mercury M2 jet drive. Thanks.
