Hey I’m about to buy a 01 challenger merc v6 that’s been sitting for two years (with fuel in it) owner said no issues before storing, we took it out and it starts and idles good but as soon as I throttle up it seems like it’s choking out, rpms just go down with throttle on, I throttle all the way then kicks right back in for a few seconds then goes back down, anyone know what it might be? Maybe bad fuel? Oil pump isn’t giving enough oil? Heard there was a recall on exhaust hoses? Thanks

2 year old fuel? Depends. Where are you? High humidity or desert? Was it parked with a full tank or nearly empty?

Your biggest enemy is water absorbed into the gas. If it's ethanol/gas, the ethanol absorbs water easily, but cannot be separated. Looks like you have lots of lawn mower gas.

You may need injectors serviced. After all, they are 21 years old.

Revving the engine on the trailer is pointless. You need to have a load on the engine. That is, in the water.

I’m in Ontario, tank was about 1/4 full and I meant we took it out as in we had it in the water, I’ll be draining fuel with a pump and same with the oil this weekend, probably should check the fuel filter too, if issues still there I was thinking spark plugs and yes I’ll check the injectors, thank u for ur reply

When vented tanks are parked/stored for any length of time, they can collect water. The closer to empty the tank is when stored, the more water it can collect. Temperature change (day-night; winter-summer) causes the tank to "breathe". Inhaling warm air with moisture that condenses on the inside of the tank. Multiply by hundreds of days and you could get quite a bit of water into the tank.

Have you had any luck with it? I am having similar issues and have cleaned/replaced every filter in the fuel system with no luck. Fuel pressure seems good in the upper 30's. I may verify timing and rebuild my pulse pump today and see if that makes a difference.

Good luck and please post if you find a solution!

the tps sensor, there are two sensors at the bottom of the motor on driver side, it’s the one with orange black and blue wires, pretty that’s the colours, to test it I disconnected it after starting the boat then it ran great, but have to reconnect it to start boat, when it’s disconnected the computer is reading the throttle body is wide open so won’t start so only disconnect when it’s running already, give that a shot
