2001 Challenger 1800 fouling plugs every time

We have a M2 240hp engine and we had it out for the 3rd time since we bought it.

Every time it starts great once you launch but if you kill it then try to start again it sounds like it’s about to start but seems like it’s giving way too much gas. And not enough air...we still can’t figure out where the air filter is?

Anyone have this happen?

Also, we were taking on water in the engine compartment but that seems to be coming from the wires that are right by the ladder. It seems like the ladder was hitting it and broke that seal of whatever those wires are...

Lastly, the boat leans pretty hard right and turning right is much more challenging then turning left...any ideas there?

Thank you in advance!!

You may have a failing TPS. You hope not. Many$. When it fails, engine goes full rich and is hard to start hot. Easier to start cold. Could also be leaky injectors pouring too much gas into crankcase. Could also be failing fuel pressure regulator. Check the pressure at the "tire valve" on top of the vapor separating tank. Should be 35-37psi with key on, engine off. A little gas may squirt out.

As for steering- that is kind of typical. You can try move one side of the ride plate up or down a bit.

Not sure what wires are within reach of the ladder. Maybe steering or shifter? Are the rubber bellows on each cable intact?

So, if I was trying to do this myself what would you start with? Replace fuel pressure regulator? Replace injectors? Any sensors to start?

Any guidance is appreciated!

Also, these are the wires that seal broke from ladder pulling the wires IMG_1775.JPG

Looks like hoses, not wires. Do you have trim tabs? Since this implies a hydraulic oil, make sure they don't leak! It could cost you $100k fine! Perhaps some cable clamps that will keep the hoses out of the way of the ladder in the future. Just clean the surfaces with alcohol, and reseal with your favorite sealer.

You can check the fuel pressure 35-37 psi at the "tire valve" on top of the vst. Test the tps; there are many write-ups here about how to do it. This checks the regulator. All 6 injectors can be professionally serviced, cleaned, adjusted, calibrated for less than the cost of 1 injector. They almost never fail.
