Hey guys,

Some friends of mine are having issues with their 210 challenger. If they are cruising at WOT and then back off the throttle sharply to say 5/8 throttle, the boat will sometimes stall out. If its a smoother transition, the issue isnt always there. Im thinking this is a carb/fuel related issue, BUT, I cannot for the life of me find any carb information for this motor. I recall seeing something about a mag center and pto carb, but I cant seem to find any information for anything carb related.

What do you guys think? Im thinking there is gunk sitting somewhere in the carb(s) or the needle seat(s) aren't in the best of shape. They're gonna be working on it this weekend and planning on a full fuel tank drain and filter replacement to start, but I'm doubtful its going to do anything.

Anyone have any suggestions? Heading down to the shore this weekend to help these guys out. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like the carbs need a good cleaning, that requires removing them and having the right tools to do the job and maybe some replacements parts?

For sure a fuel tank purge and a new filter will help. Make sure you refill with 87 octane gas, they run better on regular then on premium.

Thanks! Like I said, I can't seem to find any info on the carbs for this engine. Can I pull them, clean them and install without having extra parts on hand? Or is there a paper gasket where they mount? Not sure if it's that case or if it's a situation where they are mounted in a rubber collar. If we have to order parts, it's not the end of the world, but if something can be done without the need of extra parts that's always the best scenario.

You should be able to find a schematic of the carbs online... Just look for Mercury Marine parts manual, a number of sites have it available for free. It is also the exact same motor as the 1999 Mercury Marine 200HP outboard engine.

Thanks so much for this post. You know, I didn't even think about searching for a mercury specific manual! It's embarrassing considering I work in digital marketing . I was able to find a manual, some carb diagrams and determine that the base gaskets are indeed paper. Grabbing 3 gaskets so I can pull, clean, and re-install the carbs. If theres any issues while in there, I'll be having them grab 3 new needle jets.
