Hello, I am purchasing a 2000 sportster 18000 merc 210hp.

The problem with it is: it will need engine work the connection rod broke and made a hole in the engine & one of the compression needs work is what the owner said. He said the electrical is fine and the interior is good. Just engine.

Since I am new to the Seadoo world what do you think about purchasing this and do you think a rebuild or purchase new engine would run me?

Thanks

Rebuilding a Merc engine isn't cheap. So... buying a project like that, will depend on it's condition, and the price they are asking.

A new/rebuilt power head will run around $3200. But, with a hole in the block... they won't take your core. So... you will have to add $700 (or so) to that price.

Depending on how much work you are able to do... you could probably rebuild the engine for $2k or less.

I did something very similar last year. I bought an Islandia with a blown engine. Here's the thread. Look it over, and ask whatever Q's you may have.
