2000 speedster with mercury M2 motor oil pump gear

Hi. New boat to me. Bought in pieces. the crankshaft gear for the oil pump broke so I am looking for a replacement.
I believe the part number is 43-14513A 2. Is this the better new gear. That hopefully will not fail.

I checked Bammarine.com. Your p/n is the old number. Supeceded by

43-14513A09. I think that is the new style gear.​

Some of the "gear failures" were traced to the engine overheat, then oil pump seizes, then it destroys the gears.

Chris Carson Marine is my go to guy. He told me to do it. My local Mercury mechanic told me to do it.

If the shaft fails, the oil delivery fails and ya' fucked.

I used to worry every time I took out the boat. I used to get sick treading all the posts about blown Mercury motors due to the oil injection system failing.

Not anymore.

I'm care free with tanned buns!

Best decision of my boating life (second best - Nauticus Auto Tab upgrade from my stupidly expensice Lenco electric tabs; and third best - new composite reeds and crankcase stuffers from Chris Carson marine (engine is smoother and NOTICEABLY more powerful)).

The engine assembly is progressing. I have a question about the head gasket (rubber band looking)
The old ones look symmetrical. The new ones are different at each end, "end" is what i am calling the narrowest part. One end is pointy. The other end has 2 indents.
Can anyone explain and tell me which end goes into the cylinder side?
