While I was searching for my 1999 Challenger 1800 last year, I passed up on a lot of Speedster SK's. Maybe even the one you are talking about, as there were several I was considering in MI. I just decided that with only 160hp, it probably wouldn't be very impressive, so I stuck with trying to find a Challenger or Speedster with twin 787's instead. That said, a twin 787 boat isn't going to be the fastest on the water by a long shot either.

I personally think that price is quite high. NADA shows the full retail at $5500. I know the book value isn't everything, but I think $6800 is way high for the SK model. You can fairly easily find a clean Speedster with twin 787's for that price. If you are planning to tube or ski behind it, I would recommend the bigger motors.

I love my twin 787 speedster. But if you want to get technical, the SK is the actual ski boat of the two with the twin 720's. The 787's require more finesse of the throttles when skiing due to the raves always popping in and out, it's always "that" rpm you want when they hit. Which effectively is raising and lowering the rpm without throttle lever movement. But, once you learn how to manipulate the powerband it's not bad at all.

seems a little bit on the high end,,, if I had to put a price on it, I would have said $5000-6000 depending on condition

In 2K it will have NEITHER the 787 or the 720's. I forgot that was the first year for the MERC. So, it's a 98 or 99.

Just went to look at the boat yesterday and its mint

The trailer is aluminium so to me thats a plus but I dono the interior is in perfect shape. All the others iv seen have white lines in the seats. The bow however dosnt have a seat its a bow cover with storage.

6500?

Its a 99 twin 717 no seat in the front

In my eyes, that's a game changer. Personally, I'd never buy a Doo with a Merc in it. If you could wiggle closer to the $6k mark you'd be doing better. I'd run a compression check on all 4 cylinders, throttles wide open when doing it. Results should be around the 145-150 mark. As with anything used, it's a crap shoot, but if it's that mint it's probably low hour.

Not bad. The trailer is galvanized steel, not aluminum. A quick magnet check will confirm. Plus, It's the same trailer under my boat. The trailers came either painted or galvanized. And I'm pretty sure most coastal areas got galvanized so I'm a little surprised to see it but would rather it over a painted trailer. The tail lights have been replaced, and there are LED lights that fit nice and look better than the old square ones on there. The boat looks pretty clean. The red looks just a little faded which should be expected, but not bad at all. Seat are amazing which is the biggest plus. Check the head bolts on top of the engines, if the paint is chipped you know someone was in there. The strap for the port water box is missing (cheap fix). You'll also need to fix the fenders, they look a bit floppy and bowing outwards at the tops. The later trailers had the fenders bolted down thru the "tread" on the fenders, not thru the arch like the earlier ones were. I made mine like the later with stainless carriage bolts. If not the cheap mounting will pull out or the air that gets caught under in when you back in the water will pop them up. LOL, I'm speaking from experience. I still say the price is a bit high even at $6500, still not a bad return on the money for a boat that is 16 years old and cost almost $18K new. It all depends on how bad you want it. What Challenger did you have before?

You can see my trailer look identical other than the wheels.

racers thanks for all the help

The red in person looks glossy and you can see your reflection in it

The seats are amazing they look prefect all the others i look at have white marks or rips in them.

Head bolts are clean no chips on any bolt anywhere in this engine. Bottom is just as clean as the top it has two small scratches in the body but a 30 dollar repair kit can fix that easily

I never had a challenger I was looking for one but decided it was bigger and heavier than what I wanted

Also it is steel your correct on the trailer and he said he gonna fix the fenders this week he bought new ones and didn't have time to bolt them on yet
