Where does the nipple from this crankcase connect to?
putting engine back into ski and stumped.

That is a cooling water discharge line. It connectes to the clear hose that goes out to the back of the ski. The large black hose connects to the head above this connection.
Connect that hose before you get the engine in place it will be much easier.

I am confused as to where the rear connection is, do you happen to have a photo?

I think that line goes straight back into a barb fitting in the hull. The fitting is below the bottom stud that holds the jet pump in position and on the same side as the engine fitting. It is difficult to find and reach. That hose should be connected to the rear of the hull you just have to find it.

NOTE I'm going from memory on this. LOL
