Hi,

My speedometer does not work, but the tach does. The LED display reads fine, but it reads zero. I've checked the paddle wheel under the PWC and it spins freely. A seadoo mechanic told me there is a sensor in the back part of the PWC that he can change out for $220. I'm broke. Does anyone know where I can buy the part and how I can install it?
I would like to know -

1. Where is it located on the PWC? and
2. What exactly is it called?
3. Is it fixable with normal shop tools?

Any tips for installation are appreciated!!! Thanks. :)

what it is....it is a small thru-hull sensor/converter...thats transmits water pressure into electrical current...the paddle wheel on the back has a hose on it..it goes into the converter which converts it to an electrical pulse...right where the hose attaches goes into the hull is the converter box, remove the connector from the harness inside the hull pull the hose off the outside back, then unscrew and remove the sensor/converter...no it is not super easy as it is sealed to prevent leaks...once you remove it clean off ALL of the old sealant, install the new one and I recomment 3m 5200 sealant to assure accuracy and water tightness. You should enjoy the new dream-o-meter now working....but you can hook up a volt meter to the connetor wires and spin the wheel see if you get anything to show up on the meter....meter should be set to ohms?

try the parts link on the top of the page.....honestly its a seadoo (boat) nothing is cheap...thats why they are the best

Sealant? None should be necessary as the grommet provides a watertight seal. A new speedo pickup is in the neighborhood of $100 but it may very well just be that the paddle wheel is defective.
