Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks for all the great advice.

I took off my 2000 GTI jet pump yesterday to replace the speedometer sensor, noticed when I removed the jet pump there was white silicone? around where the pump housing meets the plastic boot on the hull. Is it recommended to slather silicone or a sealant on there, or is that optional? What I don't see is an O-ring there so I wonder if all the silicone was put on when a ring fell off or broke before. Is there an O ring at this location on this model?

A second question: dealer said speedomoter sensors no longer made for this model, so I bought a used one on Ebay. Is there a seller on this forum that sells old parts?

Third question: We have always had issues with the reverse gate on this ski. Interestingly, when I took the thing apart yesterday, I noticed that there is a clip that secures the gate in the off/up position so reverse thrust can not be achieved. Does anyone have any insight into why this clip exists?

Thanks in advance if the questions are answered elsewhere, I did a forum search and was not able to find the answers.

1. St your pump doesn't use and oring to seal.

Clean off all that silicone and buy the neoprene seal and don't use any additional sealant. Also check the water o-rings and bilge siphon o-rings.

Neoprene Seal
MSRP: $10.49
Dealer Price: $8.92

2. Nick and Jess at Westside Powersports Seadoo have the best used parts and a lot of new ones too.

3. The clip is a safety so the gate doesn't come down on it's own.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll get the neoprene seal. Do you need to change that thing each time the jet pump comes off?

Out of curiosity, does my 2007 GTX 155 use that seal as well?

Is there an easy way for me to look up this information on this forum?

It should be replaced each time the pump is off because it it just foam and compresses to shape.
Your 2007 uses a bigger pump and no neoprene seal.

At the upper right of this screen click on "Seadoo Warehouse" and you can see all the parts diagrams for your ski and order parts.

Thanks again.

i am still confused regarding the reverse flap clip.

Is that clip supposed to be used when you want the reverse flap up at all times and you manually click it on place? Or is the reverse lever supposed to engage and disengage the clip?

Each time the pump is off? seems overly cautious, but maybe every few years or so. I think one of the factors is whether an OEM wear ring is used or not. It appears OEM wear rings have a better seal against the hull plate. Stock from what I've observed, it's not present.

It's soft foam and gets compressed when the pump is on and stays compressed when the pump is off. They typically don't go bad with age, it's when you remove the pump that they can leak.
Spend your money however you like but I would rather spend $8 and avoid cavitation.

Even using an OEM wear ring you can have air leaks if you don't use anything to seal the pump to the shoe. Some models show the neoprene seal and some don't even though they are using the same pump, wear ring and shoe and nobody has ever figured why Seadoo shows it on some and not others. Plenty of people have had air leaks not using it even with brand new OEM wear rings. This is why we always recommend using a neoprene seal on the pumps with the plastic shoe.

Noted, but it's just a jet ski, not a fighter jet. I'm not going to die if I suck a little air because I skip replacing the seal every time I remove the jet pump. I woulda gone through like 6 seals on the GTX alone last season. $8 x 6 = $48. It doesn't suck air, not after I fixed the bent driveshaft issue, original one I put on there 2 yrs ago.

I can understand your point of using it, and I do use it on both skis, I just think changing it with a new one every time the pump comes off is a waste of money.

I think we can agree if it’s old or compressed really bad or missing then put a new one on.

If it’s soft and puffs back up then it’s fine to reuse like if you are putting the pump on and off chasing a problem.

Hopefully this makes everyone happy.
