Hi All, :seeya:

Love the site.

I'm on my second Challenger boat and love them. Got bad news today though.
Looks as if I threw a rod on my motor. :( This one has the Mercury 210. SO, my questions are to the Sea Doo nation;

1. Can I swap the 240 Mercury into 210 Mercury boat?

2. Where the heck can I find a used/rebuilt motor?

This sucks for sure :ack:, but I greatly appreciate any info you guys can offer.

Thanks!

Sorry that happened... and I hate to see a thread go unanswered... but I don't know if there is anyone on this board who would know. (sorry) But... if you find out, we would like to know too.

With that said... my gut feeling is that it would fit. Merc outboard engines are VERY interchangeable, and I know that you could re power a lower half with a different HP engine. The sport jet system is basically the Merc V6 outboard.

Thanks for the link.

Normally, we don't like to link away from the site, but with the Merc drives... We don't have enough info on them to be able to answer all the questions.

Easiest source for a new "used" engine is a used boat with that engine inside. There are lots of these boats around, many with sun-deteriorated upholstery and other details that lower the price. Meanwhile, lurking under the engine cover is potentially a solution to your problem. I've seen SportJet equipped boats sell for $2000-4000 because the owners were intimidated by the hull/deck/fabric cleanup. Who cares, when all you really want is the engine?

Confirm the engine runs, buy the boat for a song, use the engine, and part out the trashed boat and the damaged engine to further lower your repair costs. There's a good market for parts for these boats and engines, and you could easily recover $1000+ from that alone. Sell the trailer for another couple hundred. By the time you're done, you could have a new engine in there for well under $2000 and some elbow grease.

The M2 jetdrive is the same across all model year 2000+ Mercury jet engines, so any of them will bolt right on top of the jetdrive already in your boat. Check vertical clearance to confirm that the boat in question has enough space to accommodate the replacement engine, though it should be OK because Seadoo offered multiple engine models in many of their Mercury powered craft.

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot!

That's a great idea. I'm starting to shop NOW!

Hopefully I can find something soon!

just had the same problem and purchased a new powehead for around $3900 and the labor was about $1500. i shopped and researched for putting the 240 in when i originally had the 210 and many people including mercury suggested i replace it with the 210.
