2000 Islandia Starting problems

Just recently purchased a 2000 Islandia with a V6 EFI Mercury motor. Overall this boat is great! Definitely underused by the prior owner. I am having a few gremlins. Most concerning now is a starting and idling issue. When I first start the boat I get a large cloud of smoke. It really is more like steam than oil smoke, but does have some blue tint and oil smell to it. ZSeems to dump unburnt fuel through the exhaust. Whats more it won't idle properly, and sounds like it is running on every other cylinder. :ack:

This happens pretty much both when cold or hot, but more smoke and roughness when cold. If I'm quick enough to throw it into gear (you can't advance the throttle on the islandia when in neutral) and bring the revs up from about 1000 at idle to around 1500-2000 rpm, I can keep it running. After 5-10 minutes I can untie it and head out, but it runs rough and stalls continously, until i put some real throttle to it. Punch it up to 3000+ and it runs great! Afetr 2-3 minutes wide open it cleans itself out and runs great, and I can return it to idle or neutral with no issues. If I shut it off for very short periods, it will restart and run. More than about 20 minutes and it repeats the pollution fest....
Other notes:
-I have run the tank empty and replaced teh bad gas i bought it with clean 93 ooctane premium.
-I have replaced the water separating fuel filter and spark plugs even though the plugs were not really fouled.
-I have run fuel injector cleaner and gas stabilizer through it.
- My neighbors are ready to report me to the EPA every time I start it
Does anybody have a clue?
Thanks, Ray
