2000 GTX won't idle

Hey everybody,

I have a 2000 GTX DI that I bought two years ago not running. The guy who sold it to me said that his mechanic said that the fuel pump was bad. A new fuel pump is $1000 or so and so I searched forums on here about how to do it by buying just the fuel pump part and putting it all back together. In the end it cost me about $100. When I hooked up the battery and tried to start it she fired up pretty quick. For the rest of that season (which wasn't long) it ran great.

Then last year it was a little hard to keep it at idle, you had to give it a little gas and if you didn't then sometimes it would die. Each time we took it out it seemed worse. It became hard to start, but once you did and got out onto open water it ran fine and powerfully. The last time we took it out it was so difficult to start that I almost gave up. I figured that it is getting worse and something needs to be fixed.

I wonder if the genuine seadoo fuel pump would have been better or if it is something else. The thing that gets me is that when I first installed it it started great and ran great, no idle trouble, no starting trouble. And that when I am using it it seems great, no loss of power or anything.

The dealer said they could diagnose it for me but that it may become expensive to do so. I only paid about $500 for this thing and so I didn't want to sink $2000 in repair bills from the dealer. I'm okay spending some money but I'd like to know what I'm shooting at first if possible.

Any ideas?

I have a 2001 GTX DI and love the ski. I had a fuel issue and bought a similar aftermarket pump and the issue got worse. I then searched around and finally found a new sea doo pump, Partzilla has it for $706.42. You can also find instructions on how to make a pressure tester to see if you are getting the proper pressure.

One of the best purchases I made was a “can doo pro”. I have multiple sea-doo’s so it has helped me with a lot of diagnostics.

Thanks,

I have considered the candoo pro but I felt like it was hard to swallow. Also I wan't sure that I wanted the homeowner version vs the shop version. I suppose that if you are going to have seadoos then you need one, I've considered going another way due to the hi tech of these later machines.

I may try the partzilla route, or I may just sell it as is......breaks my heart though.
