So my buddy has a 2000 GTX RFI and when he takes off and punches it nothing happens right away. Basically bogs until you feather the throttle. Once going runs great. Following has been done

  • 150 PSI per cylinder
  • New Fuel pump and filters
  • Fuel injectors cleaned
  • RAV vales cleaned
What else should I look at that can cause this issue?

BOGGING is usually a sign of "impeded" fuel delivery into the engine......WHAT the impediment ultimately is...IS the question.....you gotta check everything in the fuel system path......dirty injectors maybe?

The fuel injectors have been cleaned so not sure if this is the issue. Also new fuel pump and filters.

I think he purchased a after market one but the one we took out was the stock pump and we had the same issue.

Is the battery good and Fully Charged? Is the charging system functioning? Are you getting really good fire? Pull the crank sensor and clean it off. I'm not a fan of clipping the plug wires 1/4 back on the RFI because the wires are short anyway LOL but you might try that.

I'd definitely to a fuel pressure check as @POPPS suggested. With the engine running.

Have you considered an issue with your jet pump? Might be worth pulling and making sure it isn't binding. Good Luck.

LOL, some people don't follow up or just give up. I got a RFI kicking my azz. :) Some stuff is not gonna be solved on the forum but You'll get some help and suggestions.

We are all trying to help…the rfi’s and Di’s are tricky to diagnose…the original fuel pumps are no longer produced.

Are the fuel pumps the problem some of the times even if they only act up for 5 minutes when first out on the water. Do after market fuel pumps even work ,

There are threads on the forum where there is some interesting discussion concerning the fuel pumps. One Quantum Pump was recommended over the other but off hand I don't remember which one. Some people have had good luck with the aftermarket pumps. I know the local Seadoo dealer has installed aftermarket pumps but I don't know which one they used. All hearsay until you do it yourself. I don't see how anyone can troubleshoot the pump without a fuel pressure gauge set up. Good Luck.

I bought a set from a guy that makes them for the DI and they work great but you don't need that for the RFI. I bought an extra fuel hose and put a TEE in the line with a shrader valve so I can just connect my testor up.

I found a new fuel pump module for my 98 rfi on ebay. It said oem on add . When I recieved the part other than the aluminun can was too tall it worked perfect. I cut the can to fit my tank, There was a BoSCH sticker and part number on it.

What part did you have to cut?? I'm curious.

I cut about 4 in off the top of the aluminum housing then drilled holes in the top to replace the holes I cut off. The add said fits all rfi from 98-11. the add is still on ebay. The gas tanks must of got deeper after 98.

Do you have any pics of that . Could you just put a fuel pressure gage in and leave it. I ended up taking the ski to the local repair for the no power problem. If they can't figure it out i will and i know i will. I have read a lot of post from you and am starting to understand the trouble shooting techniques you use. I am so busy right now I cant do it. but i have winter off. To be honest i am so pumped i want to work on them. I have 3 and something will go wrong sooner or later
