I have a 2000 GTX that I've been working on for a while. When I crank it on the water hose it goes straight up to around 6000 rpm and will not come down. Once it gets there the stop button won't work, the killswitch doesn't kill it, and the only way to stop it is to pull the choke out till it quits. It runs fine in the water, but I don't wanna have to go all the way to the river after every time I work on it. Does anyone have any clue what might be causing it?

Sounds like its starving for fuel or something. Which is odd because its a DI model. Maybe that can happen with theme too. Generally when the carbed engines had that problem it was a lack of fuel causing dieseling.

His 2000 is a carb from his ski list. It could be a small air leak, they cause the motor to idle up. Have you had the carbs off at all recently? If yes, check the throttle cable jam nut to make sure its not holding the butterfly plates open. No matter how much you turn the idle screw in, it won't go down. I had my carbs off this spring, bad carb to manifold gaskets. New ones, all better now.

Sounds like you have an air leak around your intake manifold.Either manifold to case or carb to manifold.
