2000 gti smoking really bad at start up

just got a 2000 gti very clean fresh water ski runs great but it smokes very bad at startup it clears within a couple minutes i have checked compression it has 148lbs on one cyl 145 on other what is the most economical fix for this as i am low on funds this moment

I have the same issue and to add insult to injury I just replaced the oil tank and still have oil leaking into bilge area. Any body have any ideas?

don't worry about it, the crank seals are prolly leaking a tad, its not doing to harm your engine, nothing to fix until something else breaks, then you can address the problem, otherwise, just make sure you keep oil in the tank and enjoy the water.
