Hello All,

I've recently purchased a 2000 Seadoo GTI 717. It has the old school mechanical style fuel and speedometer gauges. I've already taken apart and fixed the fuel gauge needle as it had fallen off, (as well as replaced the baffle), so that is now working.

Now, the speedometer, as soon as the key is put on it jumps to around 15mph, and stays there until it is turned back off. I have unplugged the speed sensor in the rear of the ski, no change. I took the gauge out and took it apart, I did not find anything obviously burnt or wrong, however it did have an interesting "smell" to it, not burnt smelling but almost burnt smelling, I don't know if that makes sense.

At any rate, these gauges are an expensive gamble especially considering that they are rarely even remotely correct, it just bothers me that something isn't working as it should. Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips or advice on what I can check to try to hone in more on the problem?

Thanks!

You hit it right on the head for me. Expensive gamble. I was talking to my wife today about making a test rig to plug these gauges in and test but I'm not that good with electronics. Here is the thing... they are simply not worth it to me at all. I rarely even try to troubleshoot them when they are not working. A while back I spent $200 on some RFI gauges. They don't even come on. I will troubleshoot these when I have some time but I am not optimistic concerning the outcome.

Did you check your power to the gauge? My speedo isn't working on my 1999 GTX and today I checked for power (Purple=hot, Black =ground, Purple/Yellow= Pulse from pick up) I'm gonna read and figure out how to test the "pick up" at the rear of the ski. My info center on this ski is not working either. Nothing up front works at all.

On m.My 1996 GTX (a different ski) the speedo simply just quit working but the INFO center still works. We need a gauge guru here for input. :D:D
