Hello everyone I am new here I recently Bought a ski it’s a 1999 Seadoo gtx bomarider and guy was a mechanic he owned a shop that fixes them and told me everything worked good took his word took the ski out right when I got it ran good 2 time taking it out foul spark plug was like this is not normal I was doing that every single time j go out told the guys he said it’s normal they do it then put new ones it made sure they were Gapped enough did that next time I went out blew my top end the piston both were bad so did a top end rebuild made sure everything was good did it by the book I took it out to the water start it up started right up super fast then let it idle for a bit ran good then went to give it gas and instantly died was like what the hell so I started it it was hydro locked cannot start at all took it to the trailer got it home looked at everything looked at spark plugs they look fine then compressor test it it was low then I decided to charge the battery battery was low and now it’s cranking but we’ll not fully start also it we’ll startup for a second then die I would appreciate it if you guys can help me

Is your ski carburated or fuel injected? What engine do you have? What was your compression readings?

Are you sure the fuel is good? It is difficult to point a finger at one component. Check your fuel pressure.

Your compression should not be that low, especially with a new top end. It is low enough that it will run poorly or possibly not start in the water. 120 psi and they are done, you should be at 150 psi.

I just looked at it battery was dead test the battery was no good put a new battery in and compression is reading 150 on both but when I started it fired died after a second have to give barely no gas to keep it running but still does not stay running can’t keep it running you know what the issue is checked injectors are good and I’m getting spark also getting fuel

Check your fuel pressure. 56-58 pounds is what I generally see on my gauge. There are many other things to check. I'm trying to get one running now. I spent about 10 hours troubleshooting this one so far and I have parts I can swap which is a big help. It's a tough one. Hope yours is easier.

I suggest downloading the manual for the year/model of your ski. You'll need a fuel pressure tester. Some people buy a kit. You might be able to find one that will work. If you have a multi-meter you can begin troubleshooting components. You need a few tools to work on these skis.

Ok yes I have the manual

You're gonna have to figure out what the problem is. Start with fuel pressure. Hopefully that is your problem If not, then go to plug Number 4 on the ECM. find the component testing in the manual and print those pages out. Get comfortable and check the pins with a mulit meter and check the sensors, Throttle Postion, Air Pressure, Air Temperature, Crankshaft position, fuel injectors, etc...
