I have a problem with my Seadoo speeder. I can start the engines flawlessly but then after a few moments, the tacometers dont read the rpms and both engines shut off at the same time like the power supply is getting cut off. When I restart the engines and fiddle with the deadman, at certain angles, the tac's read no problem. The start/stop button doesnt stop the engines. It sounds like its trying to turn over the engine while its already running.
I took the boat into a service place and the gentleman diagnosed the problem as the ECM and not the ignition system but hadnt had the chance to hook the boat up to any diagnostic test at that point.
Does anyone have any suggestions or courses of action I can take?
Its all just pretty frustrating knowing the ECM is a 1600$-ish discontinued part when it could hopefully be something less expensive.

You can chech the DESS port, but if the MPEM is bad you have to do the 2 MPEM jetski converison. I highly doubt you will find a used MPEM. Your boat and mine share the same MPEM. So you can only get a used one from a 98-99 Sportster 1800 or 99 Speedster SK. I know that pretty much sucks to hear.

You get 2 MPEMs from 2 Seadoo jetski's and wiring them in. You have the the dual 717's I am pretty sure. Most people opt for the mid 90's MPEMs before they put the DESS on them so you have less wiring to worry about. You can do dual DESS you just need to mount another post on the console. You loose the neutral safety switch and 3500 RPM limiter in reverse.

Some people can fix the MPEM's, but the cost is pretty close to wiring 2 MPEM's in. If you go that route if one dies you can still get back to shore.

You can look for the MPEM, but only 2 model of boats carried that MPEM and only covered only 2 years. Your model and the Sportster 1800 like I have.

If look long enough you can get 2 whole electrical boxes for under $300. You have to chop up the harness, but that's ok. Some people leave the old MPEM in to power the accessories if that part still works.

People have talked and posted pics here on the site doing it.

Do you have any info on this? Everybody i talk to say theyve never done it before so they cant really give me any insight.

I have seen people post the after pictures on the board here of it done. I havn't seen anyone list the exact installation since the wiring varys from boat to boat. The easiest way would be to wire the whole electical boxes from the doner skis to the boat engines. You are than just tracing the wires from the ski setup to the boat wires. I have seen people keep the old MPEM for the fuse feature for the accessories and seen where they mount an universal fuse box for the accessories. There is one website where the guy makes kits to do this but he only goes up to 97's right now and there are plug and play kits.

A few things are not hooked up the neutral safty switch and reverse limiter since those are not a feature in a ski MPEM. You don't have many choices if you can't get the MPEM fixed or finded a used one. Either do the converion or part out the boat.

Yeah i am beginning to realize those are my only options. I bought an MPEM from a guy who had posted on here and whether he knew or not, sold me a dead part. That got me nowhere and was a pretty decent hit to the repair fund, ahaha. Oh well. i will keep looking. Thanks

My boat uses the same MPEM so if mine goes I will do the conversion for sure. I haven't seen many of these around w/dual 717's. The dual 787's more popular.

Im north of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the main service guys are Martin Motorsports in Edmonton,AB Riverside Seadoo in St. Albert, AB and Power Merchants in St. Paul, AB. Nobody has ever done it before and some say theyve never even heard of it. Basically are unable to help me. I have no idea where to go or what to do. Its one of the grossest feelings.
