1999 GSX Rfi that won't go over 3500 rpm?

Hello all,

I am having an issue that I haven't found an answer to by surfing the troubleshooting forum.

I was playing out on the water on the Doo, and all of a sudden it lost power, and would not turn over 3500 rpm. It was smoking like a tar kettle and obviously wouldn't get out of its own way. I have done the basic investigations. I checked compression (155 & 160 #), replaced the plugs, ran it with the seat off (thinking it may have an exhaust leak), and just visually inspected the craft, but to no avail . I do not claim to understand the workings of this bizarre little motor, so I am asking for some help.

Thanks in Advance,

EC

Wow - I was just studying the RFI fuel system (PARTS link above) and it occurred to me that I REALLY don't know a lot about RFIs.

Try running the boat with the fuel knob on Reserve. If the performance changes, then you might have some stuff clogging up the valve.

Reserve?

I don't have a "choice" of fuel supply. My older one had that, but this one doesn't. I messed around with it some more, and got a 12V low light and "verbage" on the digital display. Now I have the battery out recharging it.

Thanks for the reply though,

E
