Hello and thank you for helping me.

Other than my introductory post, this is my first.

Quick back story. My brother bought this ski brand new in 1999. He meticulously took care of it (let the dealership take care of it) until he abandoned it 5 years ago. I don't think he winterized it, just pulled the drain plugs and put it in our parents basement. I finally talked him into letting my "go through it" and get it up and running.

All i have done to this thing is tow it to my house and take off the seat. I do have decent skills and decent tools, however I don't have any experience on seadoos.

First question I have is, do I simply follow the instructions in the manual for "starting after storage", or does anyone have a comprehensive tried and true system after long period of storage.

I am thinking replacing all the usuals:
1. battery
2. drain fuel and new fuel filter
3. drain oil and new oil filter
4. check/ replace air filter
5. spark plugs

Now, I want to check compression, however before I hard fire this thing up, would putting oil in the spark plug holes and letting it sit for a while, then hand cranking the pistons slowly be beneficial?

Read that spraying seadoo lubricant into airbox to lubricate the top in should be done too, but that is while the motor is at fast idle.

GSX also has grey fuel lines.

Some pictures to show what i am getting into.

Thanks again for all replys.

If it was mine, I would clean the fuel system and change the fuel lines, fill it with fresh gas, fresh oil. New plugs. You won't find an air filter on it. I would load the top end up with lots of lube and let it sit for a bit, then get it fired up. After i had it running I would do a compression test. Service the jet pump before you fire it also

That is a very clean ski and looks awesome but there are a few things that you HAVE to do before you fire it and ride it. I don't want to sound harsh but you will destroy the engine and get jaded on the seadoo's if you do not do all the steps and items. We all want you to have a great experience but there are no short cuts with these skis so lets do it correctly and have some fun with that ski. THe service manuals are available online and we will walk you through every step if need be.

1. Pull the air cleaner and carbs.
2. The carbs will need to be rebuilt with genuine Mikuni carb kits, needles & seats and base gaskets. The carb kits are available on Amazon for $38 each and the needle and seats are $16 each. Or you can buy all the parts needed from OSD Seadoo.
3. Replace all the gray fuel lines with new automotive fuel hose (not fuel injection hose). You will need 5/16" for that ski.
4. Clean or replace the fuel selector. I have never had luck cleaning them so I always replace them the WSM one for your ski is $35 on amazon.
5. Drain and clean the inside of the fuel tank.
6. Replace the fuel filter. It is cheaper to buy the entire assembly they are $25 from seadoo.
7. Drain the oil and replace with ONLY Seadoo XP-S full synthetic (yellow bottle) oil. You can find it online for $35 per gal.
8. Replace the oil filter they are $12.
9. Replace the small oil lines from the oil pump to the intake they get hard, break and the engine seizes.
10. Change the pump oil and o-ring.
11. Install new spark plugs. Use only NGK BR8ES plugs.
12. New battery don't use cheap ones like Walmart get a good Yuasa, Napa or Interstate.
13. Fresh fuel.
14. Replace the VTS trim boot and clamps. The old clamps cut the boot and it leaks into the VTS motor killing it.
Please do the work now and have fun with it and please don't skip any steps.

Let's get that beast running again!

This is exactly what I need mikidymac! Thank you! I downloaded the manual and read through it nightly. Do I replace only the gray lines? The oil lines, are they specific or can I buy them at the local auto parts store?

I am ordering the Mikuni Carb kit now.... OSD has a complete kit including needles, however it states the needles are not mikuni. for 20.00 extra, they offer oem mikuni needles. Which should I order?

Actually Mikuni just started making a line of needles that have ethanol resistant tips to replace the viton ones but I have not found a source for them yet. Once I do I will pass it on. For now the Mikuni viton ones are the ones you want. Also be sure to reuse your springs and don't use the ones in the kit.

Mikidymac, here is the extent of the list I have conquered. Need help on a few. If you are on anything other than a computer, I have copied the text below. Thanks again.

Mikidymac- 5-10 on your list, I can assume the same goes for my ski? 98 GTX LTD. What's the best way to clean the fuel tank? And where is the oil filter?

Same goes for your ski.
The best way to clean the tank is to pull it and clean.
The oil filter is a thin white filter in the line from the oil tank to the oil pump on the front of the engine.

Only thing you don't have to do is the VTS because yours doesn't have the adjustable trim.
