1999 GS Ski 717 WOT looses power

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble with a 99 Gs 717 ski. At WOT in water it will rev and go but then drop down to about half thrust. It will catch and go for a few seconds if you keep holding it WO. I have already replaced all the fuel lines and fully rebuilt the carb hoping that would fix the issue. It hasn't? Can anyone suggest what to do next?

Did you clean the fuel selector out as well? Dont let it surge like that for very long its likely running lean at times and could melt a piston.

Check compression first. If within spec, unplug the red wire to the regulator and go for a ride. If it clears up replace the rectifier.

Yes we blow it out seems to be all clear... Is the selector often faulty? Any other ideas?

As fun as it is, I would recheck the carbs. I had to pull and clean mine twice to get it all out. There was junk in the carb screens both times. Just blowing air in the selector may not be cleaning it. Get a q-tip after it too.

Sounds like a worn wear ring to me. Not even worth checking, just replace it, it is a wear item.
